South Dakota is not very racially diverse.  According to the US Census Bureau, in the year 2000, 88.7% of South Dakota residents were White.  South Dakota's largest minority group are American Indians, with 8.1% of the population.  African Americans are only 0.6% of the population, Asians 0.6% and Hispanics are 1.4% of the population.  Other races and those of 2 or more races make up the remaining percentage of the population.
