Applicants must have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE) and been approved by the South Dakota Board. Experience must be under the supervision of licensed professional engineers.
Deadlines for all items listed below must be in our office before January 1 and July 1.

1. Download a printable application. Please print or type. Pay by check or credit card authorization.

2. Complete the interactive online application. You will need a user ID and password. Pay by credit card online, mail a check, or fax/mail a credit card authorization form.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Application Fee is $100. Check payable to "SD Board
of Technical Professions".
2. On page 3 list your experience up to 10 job
experiences. Non-internship work listed, such as "McDonalds", does not require
the name of your supervisor.
3. Complete the online open-book
Take Home Exam over South Dakota laws.
4. Make 5 photocopies of the
Confidential Exam Reference Form, complete your portion and mail to all
licensed professional engineers who supervised your work. If you have
not worked under 5 professional engineers, list other professional engineers
with whom you are associated and are familiar with your work. Two of the
references can be character references. We must have at least
five (5) references.
Include stamped envelopes addressed to this office for the reference to mail
back to this office.
5. Request an official transcript from the school where
you received your degree. Mail the transcript to the board office.
