Vote: Am I Eligible to Vote?
United States Citizen
A person is allowed to vote only if he or she is a citizen of the United States of America.
Resident of South Dakota
To vote in South Dakota, you must have been a resident of South Dakota for thirty (30) days prior to an election. To vote in local elections, you must have been a resident of that particular county, city, or village for at least thirty (30) days prior to the local election.
18 years old
You are entitled to vote during the year of your eighteenth (18) birthday, but only if you turn eighteen (18) on or before the date of the election.
Registered in South Dakota
In order to vote in an election, you must be registered to vote.
Not under a sentence of imprisonment for a felony conviction.
Not be judged mentally incompetent by a court of law.
